The average standard deviation of speaker points awarded.
Updated September 27, 2024
The Average Standard Deviation of Speaks (Avg. STD Speaks) measures the variability or consistency of a debater's speaker points across rounds. Standard deviation (STD) is a statistical tool that indicates how much a set of values, like speaker points, differ from the average. A low standard deviation means the debater's scores were fairly consistent, while a high standard deviation suggests their scores varied widely from round to round. Avg. STD Speaks provides insight into how reliably a debater performed, with smaller values indicating steadier speaking performances throughout the tournament. For reference, the Avg. STD Speaks .9 on the 2024 PF TOC circuit.
