Opponent Speaker Impact (OSI) measures the correlative effect a debater has on their opponents' speaking performances. It is calculated by comparing each opponent’s average speaker points at the tournament with the points they earned in rounds against the debater, then summing the differences. OSI can be positive or negative—a negative OSI means opponents generally spoke worse against the debater, while a positive OSI indicates they performed better. In other words, if a debater’s OSI is negative then their opponents had worse speaking points against them than in their opponent's other rounds. This metric provides insight into how a debater's presence may influence the speaking quality of their opponents throughout the tournament.
